A Job Safety Analysis (JSA) is created for a specific scope of work and outlines the pre-task plan required to complete that work safely. It identifies potential hazards and risks associated with each task and defines the appropriate controls and procedures to mitigate them.
The JSA module in PIMS Safety is where JSA documents are uploaded, managed, and routed through the required review and approval process. This ensures that all relevant parties have reviewed the plan and that proper safety measures are in place before work begins.
A JSA document typically includes detailed information about the scope of work, associated hazards, and the planned actions to reduce or eliminate risk, helping to promote a safe and compliant work environment.
From the JSA module on PIMS Safety, users can:
- Create new JSA records (🔍 for more information, read the How to add a new JSA article).
- View all existing JSAs in a searchable, filterable list.
- View or update JSA details (🔍 for more information, read the JSA Details | How to edit a JSA’s details article).
- Complete JSA reviews.
- Upload supporting documents, images, or Permits.
- Track approval and sign-off on completed JSAs.
- View JSA data and trends through integrated Power BI dashboards (🔍 for more information, read the JSA Power BI Dashboard Overview article).

JSA Process
Each JSA progresses through a series of statuses that define its current stage in the lifecycle. These statuses are tied to user roles within PIMS Safety and ensure that the right individuals review and approve the JSA at the appropriate time.
ℹ Example: When a contractor uploads a JSA, it will appear in the “SUBMITTED BY CONTRACTOR” status.
While the exact process may vary slightly from one JSA to another, a typical lifecycle includes the following stages:
- Submitted by Contractor or Task Supervisor
- Reviewed by GC (General Contractor)
- Reviewed by CM or Task Manager
- Reviewed by Safety or Safety Department
- Resubmit – This status may appear if revisions are required before moving forward.
- Hold – This status may appear at any point if the JSA is paused or requires clarification before proceeding.
HyperCare Score
A Hypercare Score is displayed for each JSA, providing visibility into the level of supervision that may be required for a company performing the associated scope of work.
A company’s Hypercare Score is managed separately within PIMS Safety and can be entered or updated by users with the Super User role.
