The Observations module within PIMS Safety provides a comprehensive list to track, review, and manage site observations. Observations capture both positive and negative activities or conditions, providing visibility for identifying risks, promoting safe behaviors, and supporting continuous improvement efforts.
❗ Observations are also referred to as Tap-ins.
From the Observations module on PIMS Safety web, users can:
- Create new observation records.
- View all submitted observations in a searchable, filterable list.
- Open individual observation records to review full details.
- Complete assessments directly from the observation record.
- Upload supporting images or documents.
- Create and assign action items to ensure timely follow-up.
- View an Observations Power BI dashboard with additional data and visuals.

Navigating the Observations List
Observation Collection Methods
Observations List
The Observations List displays all existing observations in the system along with key details for each record. Users can search or apply filters to quickly locate relevant observations.
Navigating the Observations List
- To open the observations list, navigate to Observations > Observations List.
- Click the
filter icon to apply filters to the list.
- Type text into the search bar and click the
search icon to view results.
- Select any observation to open its full details page.
- Click the
add observation icon to add a new observation.
- Click the
view settings icon to view filters that are currently applies to the list.
- Click the
export to excel icon to export an excel file with the observation data.
- Click the
power bi dashboard icon to open the Observations Power BI dashboard.
Observation Details
Clicking an observation from the list opens its details page, where you can review all information captured during submission. The details page also allows users to generate action items, complete assessments, and manage file attachments.

Observation Assessments
Each observation can be evaluated through a structured assessment process to determine risk levels, confirm accuracy, and assign responsibility for a resolution. Assessments ensure that all observations are properly reviewed and acted upon.

Observation Collection Methods
Observations can be collected using any of the following methods:
- Adding a new Observation directly through the PIMS Safety web application.
- Adding a new Observation (tap-in) directly through the PIMS Safety mobile application.
